INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON GLOBAL BIODIVERSITY AND HEALTH BIG DATA 18th July, 2019

Faculty of Biological Sciences, Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad has been a proud collaborator in one-belt, one road initiative with Beijing Institute of Genomics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China. The Global Biodiversity and Health Big Data (BHBD) Alliance (http://bhbd-alliance.org/home)was established in October 2018 in Beijing. Five institutions from China, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Thailand became the founding members for promoting biodiversity and health big data sharing in the world, under the framework of “Open Biodiversity and Health Big Data Initiative” by the International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS) https://www.iubs.org/activities/initiatives/open-biodiversity-and-health-data.html. The BHBD Alliance aim is to construct a world-class Biodiversity and Health Big Data Center containing a variety of repositories and knowledge bases that are publicly accessible to world-wide communities. It will also promote the level of participation and influence of BHBD in global biological research and omics data sharing. The purpose of this Symposium is to discuss the sharing of biodiversity and health big data, provide opportunities for academic communications and exchanges, discuss the current challenges and explore the areas of potential collaborations in the fields of, but not limited to, precision medicine, genomics, bioinformatics, and big data. We believe this academic venture with leading scientists of the world will greatly encourage young graduates of our country to pursue cutting edge science and be in a strong collaborative position with the rest of the world. This initiative will also leave a strong mark on the economic front between China, Pakistan and other countries along the belt and road.
