Ph.D students Afifa Navid and Rabia Farid from Computational Biology Lab has been nominated by Dr. Syed Sikander Azam and are selected for Pakistan-U.S. Science & Technology Start-Up and Ideation Training Program organized in Dubai, U.A.E, 28th to 30th August, 2018. Both students will represent Quaid-i-Azam University in the event.
Dr. Sajid Rashid, Chairman NCB, has delivered a keynote speech entitled “Role of E-3 Ligases in Cancer”. Apart from the topic Dr. Rashid also highlighted the potential areas and applications of Bioinformatics in modern scientific era. Three days’ Conference (9-11 August, 2018) was organized by department of Bioinformatics, Hazara University, Dhodial, Mansehra. Conference was attended by faculty members, researchers, and students across the Country.
Dr. MR Khan has been selected for the award of “Return Grant” in the framework of DAAD-University of Bonn’s “Research Alumni Strategy” in 2018.
Dr. MR Khan has been awarded research project on genome informatics & genome editing as PI under 2017-18 NRPU scheme of HEC
Dr. MR Khan has been awarded research project as a Partner/Co-PIunder 2017-18 ALP scheme of PARC
National Center for Bioinformatics has been a proud collaborator in one-belt, one road initiative with BIG Data Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Within a year’s long partnership, NCB has hosted a five-membered delegate comprising of renowned scientists and researchers from China in July 2017 under the leadership of Director BIGD and Prof. YongbiaoXue, that included signing of the MoU between the Quaid-i-Azam University and the BIGD members. This visit was followed by a visit from delegate of the Quaid-i-Azam University including the honourable vice-chancellor, Prof. Dr. Javed Ashraf to BIGD in January 2018. Co-Principal Investigator of the project, Dr. Amir Ali Abbasi of NCB has twice been invited to speak at the BIG data forum in years 2016 and 2017. As founding member of this Omics consortia, NCB will play its part by taking aboard other countries along the belt and road and to be actively engaged in training its young researchers to get accustomed to Big Data Science. The 3 years project (The Omics Data Sharing Initiative) is based on the current BIGD infrastructure and expertise in database construction and to build the largest publically accessible Omics data repositories and Omics knowledgebases in Asia. We believe this academic venture with leading scientists of the world will greatly encourage young graduates of our country to pursue cutting-edge science and be in a strong collaborative position with the rest of the world. This initiative will also leave a strong mark on the economic front between China, Pakistan and other countries along the belt and road. In the continuation of above visits, a three days workshop entitled “Pakistan China Genomics Workshop 2018” is being organized to enhance awareness of "International Omics Data Sharing Project" among the young scientists and graduate students.
